Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information PermitCat ("we," "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to permitcat.com, go.permitcat.com, and our email and SMS communications.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

• At checkout: name, email address, mobile phone number, billing address, and payment details. Payment details are entered directly into forms operated by our payment processor, Stripe; we receive only a confirmation, the last four digits of your card and the card brand.
• At intake: the property address, details about your building (type, size, manufacturer, order number), whether the property is in an HOA, notes you add, and files you upload (building orders, quotes, photos, engineered drawings).
• In communications: the content of emails, texts and calls with us.
• Quiz and dealer forms: your email address and quiz answers; for dealers, business name, contact name, email, phone and website.

Information collected automatically

• Referral and brand codes: if you arrive through a dealer link (?ref=) or a brand page (?brand=), we store that code in your browser's local storage for up to 90 days and attach it to your order so we can credit the referring dealer.
• Server logs: our hosting provider records IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps for security and performance.
• Phone and SMS: if you call or text our number, our phone platform records the number, time and message content.

permitcat.com does not use advertising cookies. go.permitcat.com is operated on the HighLevel platform and may set functional cookies required for forms and checkout.

2. How we use information

• to research your jurisdiction, prepare your site plan and application, and correspond with the jurisdiction on your behalf;
• to send order confirmations, intake and upload links, status updates, reminders and requests for information by email and SMS;
• to process payments and prevent fraud;
• to send the educational emails you asked for when you submitted the quiz (you can unsubscribe at any time);
• to credit dealer referrals;
• to respond to your questions and provide support;
• to comply with law and enforce our Terms.

3. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We share information only with:

• Jurisdictions — the city, county or other permitting authority, as necessary to submit and process your permit application;
• Service providers that process data on our behalf under contract: Stripe (payments), HighLevel (CRM, forms, email and SMS delivery, phone), SiteGround (web hosting), Google Workspace (email), and file-storage providers used to hold your uploads;
• Referring dealers — we may confirm to a dealer that a referral they made resulted in an order and its approval status, but we do not share your address, documents or payment information with them;
• Legal — if required by law, subpoena or to protect our rights.

4. SMS messaging

By providing your mobile number at checkout you agree to receive transactional text messages about your order (confirmations, links, reminders, status updates). Message frequency varies with your order's progress. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time or HELP for help. Opting out of SMS may mean important requests reach you by email only. We do not share your mobile number or SMS opt-in with third parties for marketing.

5. Data retention

We keep order records, correspondence and submitted permit documents for at least seven years after your file is completed or closed, because permit history is valuable to property owners and may be needed for tax, legal or dispute purposes. Quiz-only contacts who never order are deleted or anonymized after 24 months of inactivity. You may request earlier deletion as described below, subject to our legal obligations.

6. Security

We use HTTPS everywhere, reputable providers with their own security programs, access controls and two-factor authentication on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

• Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email; reply STOP to end SMS.
• Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing permits@permitcat.com. We will verify your identity and respond within 30 days.
• Residents of California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut and other states with consumer-privacy laws may have additional rights, including the right to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
• Clear the referral code stored in your browser by clearing site data for permitcat.com.

8. Children

Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

9. Changes

We will post any changes to this policy here with a new effective date. Material changes will be announced by email to active customers.
